Does anyone have any good or bad opinion on the JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder, model GZMG330H, 30 GB capacity?

I am going on a cruise and want to take my first nice videos. I never owned a camcorder before and want to get just the right one.
My plan is to use a tripod some of the time to make sure I am in some of the videos.
This one was suggested to me.
It gives 37 hours of recording, but only 95 minutes on the battery before recharging unless I can purchase another spare battery?
It says it has a remote but I do not know what that is for? Maybe for use while it is on a tripood?
I believe JVC has a newer version (GZMG55US) called the Everio which has 10xoptical/300xdigital zoom, whereas this model has 35xoptical/800xdigital zoom.
Any suggestion or opinions would be appreciated before I go out and purchase a camcorder.

I have the JVC GZ-MG330 and love it. I got an extra battery which I highly recommend. A tripod is a great idea, but since you’ll be traveling, consider a mono-pod (Looks like a hiking pole).

Amazon.com has the GZ-MG330 for $309.95. But there is a good deal on a barely used one on eBay right now for the camera and extra stuff with it (see link below)
