Bathroom Design Made Easy   by Armil Velos

Most of us are often hesitant to take on a house project such as a bathroom remodeling. The simple truth is we are often apprehensive and perhaps a little intimidated when it comes to remodeling or decorating our bathrooms because of the the overwheling details involved in the planning and the selection of color, materials and other accessories.

The bathroom is one room that requires very little effort to decorate or remodel. Unlike the kitchen perhaps, the bathroom, at a minumum, will only require a little paint job and updating of the fixtures to give it a different look. The first step to a successful design is selecting the right types of materials. Whether it is a complete bathroom remodeling or just adding accessories to existing fixtures, your options are endless and fortunately – the market is replete with paint (in every color) and accessories for your bathroom at affordable prices.

Selecting the perfect Tile and Wall Covering

The bathroom tiles can help you create the look or design that you like. Starting with an interesting floor color or design or painting the wall a deep color is important to the overall design of your bathroom. Select a tile that has a unique texture, color and pattern and coordinate a wall paint or covering that complements with the rest of the bathroom. Combining different tile sizes and patterns adds an interesting pattern to any bathroom design.

There are various a variety ways to treat your bathroom wall. You can combine several types to decorate your bathroom:

* Waterproof bathroom cladding – is constructed out of uPVC honeycomb section panels that slot into each other using a tongue and groove system. The face of the panel has a vinyl layer, which can be purchased in a number of different: wood grain; marble effect; tile effect or solid color.

* Ceramic wall tiles – Ceramic tiles are still the most popular range of bathroom wall treatment and are available today at very inexpensive prices. By using different sizes ceramic tiles and combining them with other tiles for a border, you can achieve an unusual design.

* Custom Waterfall – Installing a custom waterfall in your bathroom is another modern design that is gaining widespread acceptance. A waterfall mounted on the wall or set on any surface in the bathroom is an excellent way to add a relaxing atmosphere to your bathroom. Installing a waterfall into your bathroom design, bring soothing relief not just to the mind but also to the body and spirit.

* Bathroom paint or wallpaper – you can easily combine paint and wallpaper to cover your bathroom wall. For example, you might want to use tile inside the shower cubicle but paint or apply wallpaper to the rest of the bathroom, but try not to use too many different products as your bathroom design might start to look cluttered. It is important is to use colors, textures, and patterns that complement each other.

Adding Bathroom Accessories

Bathroom accessories can spell the style difference when it comes to your bathroom’s finishing touches – the choices are plentiful. The conventional accessories for bathrooms are:

* toilet roll holder
* soap dish
* towel rail
* towel ring
* robe hook
* bathroom shelf
* toilet brush
* toothbrush holder

Of course, you can add any accessory to the list! Some bathroom manufacturers accept custom-made design accessories that is specific to a particular design or style. The materials used to make bathroom accessories include wood, foil wrapped MDF, chrome, brass, stainless steel, glass, ceramic and plastic. Cheap bathroom accessories typically use chrome plate on steel. These are not ideal as the steel can rust and eventually the chrome will show through – better quality fitting uses chrome plate on brass. Gold plated accessories usually include chrome fitting with a thin, electro-plated gold finish. Be careful cleaning your bathroom accessories, many bathroom cleaners contain bleach or mild abrasives that can damage the finish of your accessories.

Camera, Lights – Bathroom

Deciding which kind of lighting to use for your bathroom can also be a challenge. One challenge is the shadow trap. A shadow trap is when you look at yourself in the mirror and you will not be able to see yourself clearly. This is the same result when you place a flashlight under your chin in the dark and as a result, you are not able to see your face. The shadow trap happens when using extremely bright lights such as a halogen recessed lighting. This is because halogen floodlights are focused lighting. It is still okay to use recessed floodlights in your bathroom as long as you use a different type of lighting for your mirror to avoid the shadow trap. You may also use a softer focused or diffused light fixture. Mount the light fixtures at eye level on either side of the mirror, shining at your face. Mounting a diffused light fixture on the wall over the mirror will combat the sharp focus of halogen floodlight shining down on your face as well.

There is plenty of advice available on the internet to help you with the design and remodeling of your bathroom. Manufacturers, contractors, and designers are also willing to work with homeowners and clients with the designs of their bathrooms.
