Answers to your CXS 2200 IP Camera Questions   by Lktown

Every day, I see the same questions being asked on discussion boards, being debated on Amazon comments, and being posted all over the place. Most of the questions relate to setting up the CXS 2200 ip network camera for remote viewing, because everyone is on a different network with different equipment, each situation has tiny differences. However, the basic procedure is still the same. Other questions relate to Apple viewing, which is totally understandable. These cameras were obviously designed for Windows platforms, there’s no denying that.

 

What about Mac set up?

 

You can access the camera with an Apple Mac (Macintosh) computer without using the install CD. Essentially, the camera installs itself automatically and the software is not necessary at all, whether you are using an Apple or a PC. The extra step for Mac users is locating the camera by connecting to your router. Just connect to your router with your computer and look for “Connected Devices” and the CXS 2200 ip network camera  will appear there, it may be named Device 1, or some numbers like DIM348r5e. The router will display the camera’s IP address and you can type that IP address into a browser like IE or Firefox in order to connect to it and set it up.

 

 

How about with AT&T as my ISP?

 

The AT&T Uverse 2 wire modem is commonly bundled in these packages and it is slightly involved in remote Internet set up. It is important to know  that your local IP address only allows you to access the security camera from your own network. In order to get a public IP address for the camera, you have to enter the Uverse modem with your username and password. Then enter advanced fire wall settings and you should designate your I ip network camera with any new port, depending which one you set. Since the AT&T Uverse modem does not have UPnP, you have to manually pin-hole the port to be open for IP and UDP protocols. After saving the settings, you will see the Uverse modem assigned public IP address. This public IP address will allow you to access your camera from outside of your local network.

 

CXS 2200 Vs. Foscam IP Cameras

 

A lot of people are asking about the differences between the Loftek CXS 2200 IP network camera and the Foscam FI8908W and FI8918W IP cameras. The biggest difference is that the CXS 2200 ip network camera  comes with its own DDNS provided from Loftek. This means that if you are using a dynamic IP address, or need DDNS for some other reason; you don’t need to go through the extra step of setting one up with a third-party provider. It makes setting up the camera for remote viewing much easier. Also, the CXS 2200 ip network camera is almost half as light as the Foscam FI8918W, which puts less stress on the mounting bracket and makes it easier to mount on walls or ceilings. It also comes with included software for recording / alarm scheduling.
