The new Apple iPhone 4 is undoubtedly the most popular mobile handset of the year so far, but could it go the step further and become one of the best selling of all time?

For the first time since the release of the original phone back in January 2007, the latest version sees the first change in the actual design of the handset. From a point of view of the depth and width of the phone, the manufacturers have managed to make reduction to the measurements as compared to the iPhone 3GS. Infact the new 9.3mm depth is currently the slimmest available on any phone. The dimensions are not the only thing that have changed, the famous iPhone design now takes on an entirely different look. The famous curved back plate is no longer there, and in its place is an attractive glass panel identical to the one found on the front of the phone. As you would expect from using higher grade materials, the weight of the phone has seen an ever so slight increase by just 2 grammes. Rather than this being a problem, it actually enhances the sense that this is a high end handset and does not feel cheap in anyway. The screen size remains the same on the iPhone 4 at 3.5″, however the screen now displays an impressive 960 x 640 resolution which equates to an incredible 326 pixels per square inch. IPS technologies have been incorporated which not only produce more natuaral colour tones but also increase viewing angles on the screen.

The new Apple A4 processor that is found in the iPad is the same processor that runs the iPhone 4. Despite the host of new features that are on offer that would typically slow down the day to day running, the new model remains lightening quick. A new sensor has also been added to the phone and it is one that gives software developers the opportunity to produce more realistic software in the future. The Three Axis Gyroscope gives much more specific figures for the actual position of the phone, meaning more lifelike gaming experiences. The video capture facility now records in 720P resolution which is the benchmark for High Definition. Still shots also benefit from a new sensor alongside an improved 5 mega pixel camera. A digital zoom facility is great for getting closer to your subject and the LED flash makes nightime shots easy.

It is hard to argue that the iPhone 4 is anything but a first class mobile phone. The appeal of the handset is widespread, with perhaps the only disappointed parties being those who require a physical qwerty keypad.
