Any tips/advice choosing a second DSLR lens?!?

I own a Canon T1i. I am upgrading glass from my kit lens (18-55 mm). What should I choose? My budget is around $250. There are so many choices (Sigma/Tokina/Canon/Tamron) ! I’m interested in Macro, Telephoto, Fisheye options. Also, what is tele-macro and will it be a good choice?
I would also like to know some of the names of the models that fit the criteria in my price range.

For your budget I would recommend Canon EF-S 55-250mm Telephoto Zoom Lens and good close up shots.
