Triggering Flashes as Slaves?

I have a D50, and I’m interested in using speedlights as slaves.
I bought the SB 600 for future use as a slave and/or ringflash (with a
“RayFlash” ringflash adapter.)

I’ve been reading alot of Strobist.com, and they seem to feel really strong about the PocketWizard. thing is, I’m only 15 w/o a job -at the moment- and money is a concern.

I was looking up a pocket wizard on amazon, and I found a Elinchrom EL 19360 Skyport Universal Trigger Set for about $170.
This sounds almost too good to be true, can anyone explain this system to me. also, is this just the transciever, and will I need to buy the Elinchrom EL 19352 Skyport Universal Receiver for Most Flash Heads for about $100?

Could anyone explain this system (like how I plug, where it plugs, etc.)

The Trigger set is both a trigger and a receiver. If you have multiple flashes, you could buy additional receivers.

I’m about 99% sure that the receiver comes with a cable that goes from the receiver to the flashes PC port. I’m not familiar with the Nikon flashes but I think the 600 has a PC port.

PW and Elinchrom are getting some pricing pressure from the inexpense (and sometimes not approved by FCC) equipment being imported from China. You can find a lot of that on eBay. Some of it is not bad, I use wireless from www.gadgetinfinity.com, however that is low end stuff (but more than reliable enough for my use).

Paul C Buff (maker of White Lightning and AlienBees strobes) has a new wireless setup that has been getting excellent reviews. Their Cybersync triggers are about $60, and the receivers are about $80 each. Check www.alienbees.com and select Remote Controls.
