Faint dark marks on the corner of my canon powershot lens?

It’s a point and shoot camera. The marks are not noticeable on normal conditions but if I zoom in or focus on something close up, I can see some blurry dark marks on the left hand corner of every photo. I don’t see anything on the surface of the lens. How can I fix this?

This sounds like normal vignetting. Basically the lens projects a circular image of light onto the sensor. As you near the edges of this circle the brightness begins to diminish. If the circle is too small at a particular length of the lens, it’ll show up as darkened corners.

Many image editing programs include a some way to brighten these corners. For example in Photoshop CS there is the Lens Correction filter (Filter > Distort > Lens Correction…).
