Triggering camera thru cord remote?

I am setting up portrait studio in my basement with 2 strobes, backdrop etc. I am wondering if one can trigger camera shutter using corded remote? my camera came with remote control but it has limited functionality and range. I am looking for solutions like they have in JCpenneys, Sears portrait studios where the power of click via corded remote/switch is very useful.

i am getting flash cord which connect strobes to camera Flash Hot Shoe. but that would trigger the flash when shutter clicked.

This can easily be done but it depends on what type of camera you are using as to how it is done.

If you have a camera that uses a cable type release then I would suggest an air bulb type release. As the name implies it uses a small rubber bulb and small rubber tubing connected to a mechanical cable type release at the end of the tubing. The tubing can be very long allowing you to move around a lot. When you want to trip the shutter you just squeeze the bulb.

If your camera has an electronically controlled shutter then check with the manufacture, they should have several options from wired to wireless.

Since you are working in a controlled environment this is what I would suggest. One of the above shutter controls and small photocell to trip all additional flashes. Place an on camera flash on the hot shoe and set about ½ to 1 stop under the setting of your main light. The on camera flash will be your fill. For the best results you also will need a background light and a hair light. This system is easy and inexpensive.

A good photographer must understand light and how to use it. For example in studio you should know the inverses square law of light, this will help you to be able to change lighting conditions quickly without having to recheck ever light separately with a light meter after every change in lighting. Get a good book.

I prefer to be close to the camera when working in a studio.
