What is a good/cheap Nikon telephoto lens?

I have D40 and very little money. What would be a good telephoto lens to buy. I’m not to bothered about autofocusing but I do want my lens to meter. Could i get something like a very old Nikon 70-210mm?

The 70-210 f4 is a great lens, but the focusing ring is very narrow might be hard to focus manually.

These are more expensive now used then when I pick one up brand new.

The 70-210 F4-5.6 has a wider focusing ring, but I never used one.

Then there’s 28-200 F3.5-5.6 D which I picked up used for $100, but it has a plastic mount.
